This informal workshop was the result of a collaborative effort between the Getty Research Institute staff, Glenn Philips and Andrew Perchuck, and the moderators of the four panel discussions, Robert Haywood, Peggy Phelan, Liz Kotz, and Carrie Lambert-Beatty. The workshop had no formal title and emphasized open-ended discussion. Participants focused on the need to incorporate live events into contemporary art studies, the challenge of capturing the essence of artistic production, and how to effectively document and archive ephemeral arts such as performance art and happenings.
